The 2017 Emirates Melbourne Cup is coming to town on tour!!!
Since 2003, the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour has provided rural, regional and metropolitan communities across Australia and New Zealand a chance to experience the magic of the iconic $200,000 Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy.
Over the past 14 years, the 18-carat gold Emirates Melbourne Cup has travelled more than 456,000 kilometres, visiting over 377 towns and cities and engaging hundreds of thousands of people, living up to it's name of the "People's Cup".
We are very lucky to b included in the tour so that our students do not miss out on seeing the cup. The cup will be accompanied by former champion jockey and 1999 Melbourne Cup winning jockey, John Marshall. John won the Cup on the horse 'Rogan Josh', for the legendary trainer Bart Cummings. He will also be joined by some representatives from the Victorian Racing Club, including renowned historian and author Andrew Lemon.
There will be a street parade from 8:30am until 9am starting at the top of Capella Street (at the corner of Herschel Street, next to the Commercial Hotel), with horses and cars, and local racing personalities in attendance.
After the parade, the cup will come straight to our school where we will have a short whole school parade to welcome them from 9:35am until 9:55am. They will talk with the students about the Cup and its history. We look forward to seeing the cup come to Clermont State School for this memorable event.
